Our History

The Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums (CFFM) was founded after two volunteers from the Art Gallery of Ontario attended the First International Congress of the World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM) in 1972 in Barcelona, Spain. Our founding President, Diana Goad, was one of these volunteers and she was determined to bring Canadian museum volunteers together and to give them a voice on the international stage. At our inaugural meeting, Diana admitted, “Volunteers have been living on optimism for many years.” Indeed, it was this optimism that brought her to the WFFM and to begin assembling Canadian Friends. The pieces all came together in October 1977 and CFFM was created.
